OPEN WATER SWIMMING RULES

  • Minimum age = 12 years.
  • 12-15 year olds must be accompanied by an adult (18+) – 1 adult can supervise 1 child.
  • Participants 16 years of age may swim unaccompanied; however, an adult (18+) must remain on site for the duration of their stay.
  • All participants must be able to swim 200 metres unaided and be confident in the water.
  • All participants must sign a waiver prior to their swim session.
  • You must not have any medical condition (such as heart disease, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes) which may impact your ability to safely partake in ‘open water wild swimming’.

BE VISIBLE:

  • All participants MUST wear a high-vis swim cap. Please bring your own or these can be purchased online or in Reception upon arrival.
  • All participants MUST use a tow float at all times. These can be hired or purchased in reception or please bring your own.
  • If you are in trouble and need assistance, wave your arms and shout out to attract the attention of the lifeguard team on duty.
  • Wear a wetsuit to protect yourself in colder conditions.
  • Bring layers to wrap up after your swim session.
  • Acclimatise before entering the water – enter slowly before getting into deep water.
  • We recommend you wear suitable swim goggles.

KNOW YOUR LIMITS:

  • Swim within your limits; know the swim course before you start.
  • For those new to ‘open water wild swimming’ or starting up again, we have a 200m confidence course.
  • Start with shorter swims and increase gradually over time.
  • If you need to rest or stop, please swim outside the course loop to avoid causing congestion and use your tow float accordingly.

BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHER SWIMMERS:

  • Not everyone swims at the same speed; be aware of slower swimmers and swim clear of anyone slower than you.
  • If you accidentally collide with another swimmer, please stop and check they are ok.

SWIM COURSE:

3 swim courses: 200m (Confidence course), 350m & 500m – Swim multiple loops for longer swim distances.

Fully qualified open water lifeguards on duty at all times.

FACILITIES:

Changing rooms, toilets and outdoor showers available.

Lockers available – padlocks can be purchased on arrival or bring your own.
